Restaurant Reviews

Read the following reviews from TripAdisor.com, and guess (out of 5) how many stars they were given. Click on the restaurant name to check your answer.

Sisiliya (Yokohama): You haven't had real pizza until you've eaten here. Cooked in a brick oven right in front of you, the pizza's include just a few ingredients. At least basic Japanese communication skills required.

Naturale Buono (Yokohama): Cozy little place, delicious food, great service, and Illy coffee! If only they would lose the ‘scenes of Italy projector’....

WindJammer Jazz Bar (Yokohama): Gigantic (delicious) hamburgers (the size of a standard dinner plate and bigger than anything I've seen in America), awesome atmosphere, and live jazz bands.

Fujimamas (Tokyo): Fujimamas misses the mark. Firstly the service was really poor. We were "greeted" by a grumpy American lady who ignored us for about 5 minutes before seating us. The food itself was not dreadful but not very good either. The recipes were neither authentic nor creative. The atmosphere was ok. It was busy with a tourist crowd who were coming in from sightseeing. The bill included a service charge which is totally unheard of in Japan and when coupled with poor service, particularly stung. Overall disappointing. However, Tokyo has so many great restaurants at a broad range of prices (mostly affordable) and this is not one of them.

Kanda Yabu Soba (Tokyo): Located in Kanda since 1880 is Yabu Soba Awajicho. Your senses heighten as you walk thru the elegant Japanese garden, and you step back into time as you enter into the long corridor entrance then into the Japanese Soba House itself. Rustic walls, raised tatami floors and the ancient chanting of orders from the Okami herself.

Soba is the star, but there are many other wonderful tasty tidbits to go with your Sake or beer if you prefer, like Tendane, the crisp round shrimp tempura patty that stays crispy in the sauce, it can come by itself or with a bowl hot soba in broth or with a tray of cold Zaru Soba with a bowl of sauce for dipping and slurping. It’s all good here.

Silverado (Tokyo): I just found a great, new restaurant in Ginza Tokyo. The food was superb and very reasonably priced (for Tokyo). The staff were very, friendly and helpful and the good young chef provides interesting Japanese/California fusion food. Inside the setting is quiet and nicely lit. It was a nice place to slow down after the crazy speed of Tokyo. I will certainly go back next time I am in Tokyo.
